Meet Dan Taylor

Tell us a bit about your background

My family and I have lived in Fleet for 13 years. I became involved in the local community through the kids’ schools, then with Scouting at Ancells Farm. You will still see me there with our kids most weeks. I then became a Town Councillor in 2023.

Initially, I was drawn to Fleet by its links to aviation and as an ideal place to bring up a family. I still work in aviation consultancy, increasingly focused on environmental sustainability strategy. In my downtime, my family and I enjoy the countryside around this beautiful area and canoeing up and down the Basingstoke canal.

Why did you become a District Councillor for Fleet East?

I’ve seen the effort it takes to keep this community thriving, and I’m inspired to contribute. My goal is to help Fleet not only maintain its charm and vibrancy but also grow into a safer, more accessible place that everyone can enjoy.

On the Town Council, I have enjoyed providing facilities and an environment for children in the area to enjoy. As a District Councillor I can have more impact in planning, the environment, and facilities for our community. I would like to bring together my professional and community experience to the LibDem team to help in their successful running of Hart District Council.

Why are you a Liberal Democrat?

I have always admired Lib Dem values, to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society. I have seen our Lib Dem Councillors putting those values into action.

What are some of the issues you are tackling that affect Fleet East?

It’s vital that we protect our local services in the face of huge financial pressures from central government and I’m proud that Hart District Council is currently doing that. We need to protect and improve our local environment with appropriate development and green technology.

And I believe it’s vital that we support our young people – providing the environment and facilities for our next generation to thrive.
