Meet Daisy Khepar
Tell us a bit about your background
I’ve been a military (air-force) wife since 1985 and travelled around the country as well as Europe. I moved 18 times and worked in admin jobs, care work with young people, in a library, with nursery children and even as a tourist guide in Gibraltar! I appreciate all these experiences and what that life has given me.
Why did you become a District Councillor for Fleet East?
I live in Fleet and want to be more involved in what is happening on my doorstep and be of service to, and help, those who have encountered challenges in our local area.
Why are you a Liberal Democrat?
For years I wasn't sure which way to turn politically. So, I went through all the parties checking out what gels with me. Lib Dem values and the focus on community really appealed to me. I went to a Hart Lib Dems ‘Tea and Cake’ and met like-minded people, so I decided to join Lib Dems. If you’re thinking about finding out more about the Lib Dems locally, get in touch! We’d love to meet you.
What are some of the issues you are tackling that affect Fleet East?
Fleet has great activities for older people but poor public transport. I’ve a friend who’s registered blind and can’t drive; it’s hard knowing how bad it is for her and others to get out and about. Unfortunately, with the Conservative Hampshire County Council holding many of the purse-strings, community initiatives like public transport for the disabled are much harder to implement. What is good for the communities they serve is not a priority for them.
I intend to continue to be vocal about things that don't serve the common good of the community. We all deserve better.
