Layla Moran MP in conversation Alex Brewer MP

6 Nov 2024

On Thursday the 17th of November, Hart Lib Dems hosted a fundraising event titled: ‘In Conversation with Layla Moran MP.’

Alex Brewer, MP for North East Hampshire and Layla, one of the Lib Dems star MPs, discussed policy, Parliament, and when professional life mixes with personal, in front of a live audience of around 70 local Lib Dems. The intimate setting provided them both with the opportunity to speak freely and openly about the issues they care about.

Layla shared her concern with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, where her mother is from. She also shared her excitement at being named chair of the Health and Social care Parliamentary Select Committee, a position she hopes will allow her to affect real change.

Alex, meanwhile, spoke about her experience as a new MP, the advantages and struggles of the role, and what Westminster is like to someone who was, until July, an outsider to Parliamentary politics.

For those in the audience, getting to hear their representatives genuinely speak their minds’, without having to worry about their words being taken out of context, proved very refreshing, with the innovative ‘In Conversation With’ format proving a great success.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a LibDem event without a raffle! The event was capped off by Alex and Layla announcing the winners of prizes generously donated by local businesses, as well as a signed bottle of House of Commons whisky.

Many thanks to the team of Hart Lib Dem volunteers who organised this special event and to Layla for so generously giving her time. We hope this is the first of many occasions we can welcome her to Hart!
